Hello and welcome to all incoming 2017-18 JETs!!

As most of you will know by now, there is a one day orientation held for all new ALTs at the end of August every year. It is hosted by the PAs and a group of volunteer ALTs who work together to make this day informative for you. It is held at the end of August so that all new ALTs can attend. This includes any Group C ALTs, who arrive just a couple of days before orientation.

This year it will be held on Monday, August 28th.

Here is the location on Google Maps and this is the address:

長崎県勤労福祉会館

〒850-0031 長崎県長崎市桜町9-6

If none of that is legible to you then never fear!! One of our trusty working committee members, Aaron, has offered to meet less confident navigators at the Nagasaki station and guide them to the venue. We’ll put out more information about that as we get closer to the date.

***Please bring your General Information Handbook***

The dress standard is business wear.

Men: Suits aren’t necessary, but please wear a shirt and suit pants.

Women: Skirts, dress or dress pants paired with a cardigan, short-sleeved jacket or smart top.

For ALTs coming in from out of town, some COs (contracting organisations) will book your accommodation for you. For others, you will need to book it yourself. It is best to check with your CO and/or predecessor as soon as possible to find out if you need to book it yourself or not. If you leave it too long then you may be left with no choice but to book an expensive hotel. ALTs are reimbursed for business trips however, there is a budget that if you go over you’ll need to foot the bill yourself. A lot of new ALTs take this opportunity to spend the weekend in the city before the orientation and attend the Welcome Party (more on that to come).

When it comes to accommodation, the best thing to do is ask for recommendations from your sempai but the following are a few of the more common places ALTs stay when they are coming from outside the city limits.

Casa Noda – just a 5 minute walk down the road from Nagasaki Station

Casa Blanca – very close to China Town, the sister hostel of Casa Noda

Nagasaki International Hostel Akari – this one is close to the famed Megane Bridge and possibly the closest of the three to the venue

In the lead up to Welcome Orientation, if you come up with any questions you would like to be addressed, feel free to use this Google Form to submit your inquiries.

We hope you’re all settling in OK and finding ways to cope with the heat and humidity that is Nagasaki summer!
