Camellia “Tsubaki” Festival

Approximately 260 trees are planted along the Sasagawa promenade. At the same time, rapeseed flowers bloom, and on days when the weather is nice, the area is crowded with people. About 150 cherry blossoms bloom in Sasebo Park every year. The spectacular flowers dye the park a refreshing spring colour. Make sure to stop by at night when the Bonbori Lanterns illuminate the cherry blossoms in light, showing off a different view than in the daytime. Saikai Bridge Whirlpool Festival

Overlooking Inoura Strait, the gateway of Omura Bay, is Saikai Bashi Bridge Park. The strait possesses one of the three great rapid tides of Japanese waters, and whirlpools can appear at any moment. There are many events to enjoy during this event! Such as the sale of agricultural products like fresh vegetables, tasting sweets, making sweets, buying sweets being sold by high school students, handmade miscellaneous goods, and playing games. Flower Festival

Omura Park, which surrounds the ruins of Kushima Castle, was selected as one of the “100 Best Cherry Blossom Places in Japan” and “100 Best Historical Parks in Japan”. 2,000 cherry trees, including the nationally designated natural monument Omura cherry blossoms, will bloom for a total of 2 weeks. Cherry Blossom & Sweets Festival

Poet Shizuo Ito Memorial Ceremony

Isahaya-born poet Shizuo Ito wrote an influential poem titled “Lamentations for My People”. To commemorate his achievements and contributions to Japanese poetry, the local junior high school chorus club will perform a song and a poem chosen from the best works in poetry will be recited. Shimabara’s “Hatsuichi” Market

The first market in Shimabara was held in the 4th year of Genwa (1618). When the then lord of the Shimabara Domain, Shigemasa Matsukura, built Shimabara Castle, merchants, farmers, and fishermen from the surrounding suburbs opened a “market” in the castle square. Here, they could barter, haggle and sell various items and wear. After some time, it became known as “Hatsuichi” because it resembled a bustling city during these days. “Kanoukaen” (Fire Festival)
28th (Saturday), From 6pm 
Around Unzen Town

長崎県雲仙市 雲仙温泉街一帯
The largest fire festival in all of Nagasaki features around 200 participants in samurai warrior costume marching through the blooming cherry trees of Tachibana Park with flaming torches in their hands. This practice is based on an illustrated story found in a historical scroll from over 400 years ago.
