Hello everyone,

We hope that you are as excited as we are for this year’s incoming class of ALTs! It is now, inarguably, summer. With this in mind we urge you to make the most of the warm days by checking out your local beaches and swimming holes. Just remember to slip, slop, slap and wrap (slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat and wrap on some sunnies)! It’s promising to be a goodie!

SDC will be on October 16th and 17th this year. Now that we have the Working Committee up and running we are prepared for an influx of presentation ideas so don’t hold back. We need everyone (yes, you rising 2nd years too!) to tell us about your areas of expertise so that we can plan the best SDC possible! SDC is our sempai JETs’ opportunity to give back to the Nagasaki JET community and help raise the level of ALT instruction across the prefecture.

With schools finishing up in the next week or two please inquire about the summer leave that is available for you. Please be aware that some schools may require you to take those days at a designated time. Either way, these days are perfect for an extended weekend away to the cool mountains or a lush island getaway.

On July 29th and 30th there is a fantastic festival in Nagasaki at Seaside Park (水辺の森公園). There is food, entertainment and an incredible fireworks display once it gets dark. If you don’t already have plans then I would say that it is well worth a look.

The days and hours before so many of our friends leave is closing in! Please remember to try to be the best predecessor you can by communicating thoroughly to your successor and making arrangements for passing possessions along. When you get to wherever you may be going, be sure to join JET Alumni groups and stay connected.

Best of luck to all our friends moving on from the JET Programme! Remember to come back to Nagasaki for a visit every now and then!
