We hope you are all doing well! April is an especially exciting time in Japan with all the warming weather, cherry blossoms, and teacher transfers. We hope everyone got the chance to do a bit of hanami! Facebook and Instagram are flooded with pictures of you all having fun and it’s awesome!
We only have a few things for you all this month.
Hospital Questionnaire
For the benefit of all of Nagasaki’s ALTs, we want to make a database of English-friendly medical facilities. If you have used a medical facility in Nagasaki that offers English please fill out our questionnaire. We will compile the responses and put them on the upcoming Nagasaki JETs homepage.

Preparing to Leave JET
For our friends who are preparing to set off for new adventures in August, we recommend reviewing the General Information Handbook’s sections on preparing to leave the program. There are lots of things to take care of before you go including setting up ways to receive your pension refund, arranging travel home (or wherever you may be off to), and of course preparing your apartment for the next ALT. Start reviewing the steps early to not get blindsided in July! Don’t forget about residence taxes that might come due!
Residence Card
If your period of stay on your residence card runs out this August start talking to your CO soon about taking steps to have it renewed. It’ll require a bit of paperwork and likely a trip to an immigration office. If you are leaving JET this year and are planning to do some touring in Japan in August, make sure you have time left on your card! If your period of stay ends before you leave you will need to change your status to tanki taizai (“short-term”).
Golden Week 2017
Start planning for Golden Week! A nice little vacation in the end of April is a perfect way to break you out of the winter-month-mindset. Get planning early before hotels book up!
Summertime Plans
Summertime is right around the corner! Take advantage of Nagasaki’s amazing locale by enjoying some time on one of our luxurious islands! Goto, Iki, and Tsushima each have their own amazing beaches and local ALTs that would probably be happy to share some local flavor with you. Okinawa isn’t far away either! Start talking to your COs soon about using that nenkyu.
