Crying Baby Sumo Event

The Konaki Crybaby Sumo is held annually at the Saikyo-ji Temple on `Setsubun`, or the beginning of spring. Two babies at one time are brought into the sumo ring to compete. Hina Doll Festival

Locations Around Hirado City
In early spring, you can enjoy the displays of hina dolls of the Hinamatsuri (or Girl’s Festival) in the shopping-street and various other places. The dolls of the Matsuura clan in the Matsuura Historical Museum are especially worth viewing.

Setsubun Star Festival

Setsubun (節分) literally means “seasonal division” and is a festival held on the day before the beginning of spring according to the Japanese lunar calendar. Rituals are held on this day to drive away evil spirits and welcome good fortune. There are large incense burning prayer events and bean-throwing for good luck! Tulip Celebration

Walk down “Flower Road” and feel like you’ve been transported to the Netherlands with the wonderful aroma of Tulips as far as the eye can see! Spring Tree Markets

Take part in this annual spring event as about 10,000 kinds of garden trees, fruit tree seedlings, bonsai, flower seedlings, hardware, etc. will be exhibited and sold. Many people from outside the city come to gather, buy, sell and learn every year! The staff of each exhibition space answers any questions on planting, so even planting beginners can get insightful tips and tricks from masters of the trade. Omegae Brewery Sake Making & Tasting Tour

Each store’s proud gems, such as Sechihara green tea, local agricultural products, and Higashihama’s fresh seafood, will be sold. This year, buy tea grown in Matsuura City and Saza Town. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the designation of Saikai National Park, new cherry blossoms will be planted around Ojika Town. Touch some soil and nurture the future spring together! An event featuring lights inspired by hoarfrost (Hanaboro), which represents Unzen in winter, will be held throughout the town.
