Tsushima Area

Komodahama Shrine Festival

Komodahama Shrine, Tsushima

This festival is dedicated to the Tsushima military governor and his soldiers who died in battle at Komodahama beach during the invasion of 1274. During this festival, various rituals are performed, such as a warrior procession led by samurai marching to the beach. Autumn Tour of Hirado

Meat Festival

This is an event where you can enjoy meat, including a Nagasaki Wagyu beef lottery, meat tasting event, and quizzes to deepen your understanding of the meat market. ‘かっちぇて’ I Love Kyushu Fair

「かっちぇて」is a dialect word that means “let me join your group.”This fair is a major product exhibition where local Sasebo specialty products such as processed seafood, fresh fish, local sake, and famous sweets are sold at lower prices than the market price! Kameyama Hachimangu Shrine, Sasebo City

On the 1st, a procession of three mikoshi (portable shrines), a lion, a priest on a horse, and Odori-machi’s votive dance will take place from Kameyama Hachimangu Shrine. On the 3rd, there will be an “Oboring” from Otabisho in Matsuura Park to Kameyama Hachimangu Shrine which is the reverse course of the 1st day. Jufuku-ji “The Inverted Autumn Leaves”

In autumn, the colourful “Inverted Autumn Leaves” hall will be open to the public for a limited time only. During this period, they remove some tatami mats from the hall of the temple, and set the acrylic board to reflect the inverted images of the autumn leaves in the garden. Mikawachi Ware Fair

“Mikawachi-yaki” has more than 400 years of history since the first kiln was started. It is designated as the National Traditional Craft, and the products are the local specialty that represent Sasebo city. At this fair, potters and trading companies from three Sarayama(Mikawachi, Kihara, Enaga, the villages of ceramic art) welcome you with a wide selection of Mikawachi ceramics in front of Mikawachi-yaki Traditional Industry Hall. Kira Kira Festival

With Shimase Park as the main venue, the parks, streets, and arcades of the central shopping district are decorated with illuminations, making it a winter tradition in Sasebo. Kawatana Volleyball Competition

A Volleyball competition that is open to only Kawatana Residents. People of all ages and genders are asked to join, whether playing normal volleyball or soft volleyball, there is are fun competitions to be had. It is a strange festival that is said to be used to dispel evil spirits and plagues by scattering the sand of the beach throughout the village. At the end of the divine procession, there is a person wearing a ‘sandola’ (straw hat covering) called a sand demon, as it comes from the fact that sand is thrown around regardless of who it is at.
