The Working Committee

The Working Committee (WC) consists of eight dedicated ALTs along with the PAs. Together, we collaborate throughout the year to meticulously plan and execute both the Welcome Orientation and the Skills Development Conference (SDC). However, our responsibilities extend beyond these two events.

If you’re intrigued by the idea of joining the WC in the future, be sure to watch out for upcoming applications. It’s an excellent opportunity to contribute to the ALT community in Nagasaki and gain valuable experience to showcase on your resume beyond your JET journey!

Elle

Hello everyone! My name is Elle, and I will be in my fifth year on JET from this summer. I am originally from Canada and am currently living in Nagasaki City. I spend most of my time outside of work studying in cafes and working on small handmade crafts. If you see me around, feel free to stop for a chat. I am looking forward to bringing everyone a fun and informative Welcome Orientation and SDC this year!

 

Danial

Hi! I’m Danial, a third year ALT living in Nagasaki City. I’m originally from South Africa! When I’m not at school, you’ll probably find me exploring the prefecture on my motorbike or jogging through the city, especially if the weather’s good! Feel free to reach out anytime, whether you’ve got questions or just want to hang out!

 

Fran

Hi! I’m Fran, an ALT from Australia placed in Minamishimabara. I will be starting my 3rd year on JET in August. 
I like learning new things and finding ways to be part of my community. I am currently learning hula, and looking forward to joining summer festivals. I love nature, so if you want to know about some good spots around Minamishimabara please let me know. Looking forward to being part of the working committee again!

 

Kurt-Albrecht

Hi everyone! I’m Kurt-Albrecht, and Im a third-year ALT from Minnesota, USA. I live in Sasebo and work at a junior high and high school.
In my free time I do Yosakoi dancing with a local team, and I love watching Kabuki theater.
I’m excited to work to make a memorable Welcome Orientation and SDC this year!

 

 

Talita

Hi there. My name is Cecilia, but you can call me Talita. I’m a fourth-year ALT from South Africa. I currently find myself at Kunimi High School, home of soccer. My school has turned me into a proper soccer mom, even though I had never even watched a single game before coming to Japan. When I’m not cheering for my boys, I dabble in ikebana, kyudo, and water painting. As if I didn’t already like Japan, I have fallen in love with this country, but Kyushu is the absolute best. I hope you will enjoy the friendly people, beautiful nature, and rich culture of this corner of Japan as much as I have.

Sophie

Hello, I’m Sophie, and I’m a third year ALT from New York City! I live on Naru Island in the Gotos, and I work at the high school, junior high school, and elementary school (because I’m the only ALT on my island!). I like video games like Genshin Impact and Stardew Valley, and I like to sing, too! When I have free time I also like to sleep. Feel free to say hello! 

 

Karan

Hey, I’m Karan! I’m a second-year ALT and I teach at elementary and junior high school. I have too many hobbies to list here, but they include cafe-hopping, video games, and recently, running. I double-majored in computer science and Japanese studies at university, so I can do some tech-y things and speak Japanese in theory, but don’t ask me for tech support or how many times I’ve failed the JLPT.
 
Calling myself an ‘extrovert’ is a bit of a stretch but I’d say I’m pretty sociable and always keen to try new things. It’s why I end up involved in all kinds of events, whether participating in or organizing them. Reach out if you want to exchange travel stories or talk about virtually anything!

 

Matt

Hey! I’m Matt, a third year ALT from the UK, living down in Minamishimabara. I work at two junior high schools and also make bi-weekly visits to the local kindergarten. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the Shimabara hanto, usually in search of somewhere new to grab a coffee and cheeky sweet treat. On rainier days you’ll find me cooped inside building Gundam models or belting out some tunes at Karaoke. If you’ve got any questions about JET or just want to chat, feel free to say hi.
