June

Hello everyone,
Summer is fast approaching but before we can reach the summer heights we have to endure the rainy season. Humidity is rising so start getting out those airisms and umbrellas. Invest in some magic moisture absorbing pots for your wardrobe and keep an eye out for mold.

Thanks to all those ALTs that sent in photos for the website – the compilation is now rather comprehensive. You can see them here.

Here are the July reminders/announcements:

Leaving Jet

gih_2017

For those of you who did not accept reappointment and all 5th year veterans, we are nearing the one month out marker before it’s time to say sayonara. If you haven’t already reviewed the General Information Handbook’s section on leaving then I suggest you hop to it. With all the farewell enkais on both professional and personal levels you will be pressed for time and you don’t need to be stressing about things at the last minute. Be mindful of the needs of your replacements!
Remember to look carefully at your return flight itineraries before you sign them!
Also, all leavers please take a few minutes to fill out this survey to make sure that you receive information about returnee JET receptions and other events.
Summer Leave

TROPICANA

During the month of August you will be offered ‘summer leave’.Some schools will tell you when to take this leave and others will leave it up to you. If you are unsure about it ask your CO. It is a great opportunity to have some relief from the staffroom summer tedium for either R&R or a holiday to somewhere cooler. Either way, make the most of it!
Residence Card

zairyuard

Just a reminder to check the period of stay on your residence card. If you are leaving JET then you need to know the date before which you need to leave Japan. If it expires before you want to leave then you will need to change your status. If you are going into your 4th year as an ALT then you will need to renew your period of stay as the standard issue residence card expires after 3 years.
Nagasaki Port Festival

TROPICANA (1)

On July 29th and 30th there is a fantastic festival in Nagasaki at
Seaside Park (水辺の森公園). There is food, entertainment and an incredible fireworks display once it gets dark. If you don’t already have plans then I would say that it is well worth a look.
Skill Development Conference

TROPICANA (2)

With SDC coming in October please start to think about how you might like to contribute. TED style talks, Activities Fair and Workshops all need presenters and you could be one of them. Start thinking about your strengths and expertise. Let’s keep the momentum going! If you have any ideas that you would like to submit or pursue, please contact the PAs anytime.

We hope that your summer is starting off great!
